With the meeting between the striking members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and government ended in stalemate on Wednesday in Abuja, private hospitals and Phamacy outs in Lokoja and its environs in kogi state have become premises of brisk business with influx of patients trooping in to seek medication.
Our Correspondent who visited the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja on Thursday reports that the hospital was devoid of large number of patients due to absence of resident doctors to attend their medical needs.
In one of the private hospitals in the state capital, our Correspondent noticed that the doctors in such health concern were spotted attending to large number of patients.
Our Correspondent gathered that some of the patients with critical medical condition were being attended to by the consultants in the hospital while those who could not Withstand several hours or days of waiting for their turn to be attended to have withdrawn to private hospitals.
Some patients and their relations, in separate interview with The Reporters at the hospital, appealed to the doctors and government to reach quick and amicable solution on the strike,to save the health sector from total collapse and public health from much serious danger.
Our Correspondent further reports that the demands of the doctors concerned border of welfare issues among others.
The Reporters recalls that the doctors commenced the indefinite strike on August 2,2021.
The online publication recalls that that NARD,the parent body of all Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria,and an affiliate of the Nigerian Medical Association, established in 1978 with the headquarters in Abuja.
