There is no plane crash at Ilorin International Airport,an official of the of the airport has said.

The official, who pleaded for anonymity, denied the rumour of aircrash in the area,in an interview with Our Correspondent in Ilorin on Saturday.

“There is no plane crash at Ilorin International Airport,” he stressed.

He said that what happened was that, an aircraft in the fleet of Air Peace on Friday got one of its tyres bursted, shortly after landing at the Ilorin International Airport .

The development, he added, forced airlines operators to cancel their operations on Friday and Saturday, because no plane could neither land nor take-off from the runway of the airport until the bursted tyre was replaced.

The official further told The Reporters that reprieve, however, came the way of the airline operators and passengers on Saturday afternoon as the Air Peace plane was evacuated from the runway of the airport.

“With this development, flight operations in and out of Ilorin can now commence in earnest,” he assured.

Our correspondent gathered that the plane has been moved to the hanger of the Nigerian Airforce in the airport for further maintenance services.

The online publication recalls that Arik Air and Overland airlines had on Friday, cancelled their flight schedules from Abuja to Ilorin as well as Ilorin-Lagos.

The incident left so many passengers, waiting to board the Air Peace flight to Lagos at 11a.m on Friday stranded.

Most passengers, it was gathered resolved to travel by road why others returned home for fear of bad road network and insecurity.
