The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has enjoined corps members to make integrity and dedication to work their watchword in their various places of primary assignment, saying that the harsh economic situation in the Country is not a licence for anyone to engage in crime.

Bawa stated this on Wednesday while giving a keynote address during the orientation programme for the 2021 Batch “A” Corps Members held at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the State’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Asaya , Kabba, Kogi State.

The EFCC Chair, whose address rounded off lectures for 2021 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members in the State was delivered by the Head of Public Affairs Department, Ilorin Zonal Office of the Commission, Ayodele Babatunde. He described corruption as a malignant cancer that must be vigorously fought to avoid negative implication of its existence on national development.

In the address entitled “EFCC and The Role of The Youths in Curbing Corruption”, Bawa challenged the youth to be alive to the fight against corruption as the future of the nation rests on them.

“Apart from the fact that they (the youths) are considered as leaders of tomorrow, most economic crimes, especially cybercrimes are committed by young people. It therefore follows that young must not be mere spectators in the anti graft campaign. Rather, they should actually be the foot soldiers leading the mass rout of corruption and economic crimes out of our land”, Bawa said.

He called on corps members across the country to embrace whistle blowing as a potent means of enlisting in the fight against economic and financial crimes, including corruption.

While admonishing the youths to embrace hard work and shun all manners of crime, the EFCC helmsman noted that “the consequences are grave”.

“Yahoo Yahoo is not a sustainable way of life. It is painful when our operatives arrest as much as 50 Yahoo Yahoo boys in a single raid,. Add your voice to mine , because the fight against economic and financial crimes involves you and I, while I play my part , you will play yours”, he said.

The anti graft czar thanked the NYSC for giving the Commission the opportunity to impact the corps members, while tasking the youths to stay away from acts of criminality.
