It was 6:23 am this morning when madam Ajibolade ( widow of Dare Ajibolade former Chairman CDHR, Ogun State) called that her husband was unconscious and that I should be coming down to General Hospital, Otta.
However, Ajibolade himself called me on Thursday that I should book a place for him at Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta , he prayed for me and said I should drop whatever I was doing to go there so that he could be admitted on Saturday. All efforts to do that was unsuccessful and I was fortunate to get him a private ward that he would be admitted on Monday.
I called him later in the night to tell him that he would be admitted on Monday…… “Banky”, you are not serious, he retorted. I said Saturday, you are now saying Monday, he said bitterly. When he insisted, I made a contact with MACI doctors here in Abeokuta, Adewunmi Alayaki Adewunmi of HOPE HOSPITAL, to admit him till Monday morning at Abeokuta and to be transferred to FMC. I placed him on MACI health scheme which will allowed him to be treated freely and the cost to be borne by our organization.
Ambulance was arranged, nurse were to follow and until he said he would wait till Monday morning. We charted and for the first time, Dare prayed for me for more than ten minutes. I was preparing for the church when her madam called that I should come down to general hospital. I didn’t brush,I didn’t take my bath ,I was in my short knickers and by 7:05 am I was at the hospital. Immediately, I entered and madam saw me, she cried and I knew I had lost a friend, a leader, a boss and a confidant. I was taken to where he was and he was there lifeless body of a man that was charting with me less than 48 hours ago.
I was in tears and downcast. I didn’t know what to do until two comrades joined me and finally, the state treasurer came and we were told to move him to the morgue.
We pushed him to the morgue and wao,I never entered mortuary till today and what I saw was undescribable…. Human beings laid down on bare floor and stark naked. They are more than fifty. Some were supported by jerry cans, some were placed on bare floor, some on tables and some on plank. Women and Men were together but were stoned dead with their private part uncovered.
When we pushed Dare inside, the attendant removed all the cloth on his body and my leader was stark naked and he was placed on a wood. I looked at him, he could not protest, he could not use his hands to cover his nakedness and I asked myself, what is this life all about??? Why are we struggling to possess everything????why are we having pride and ego as if we own the world.????? Why can’t we forgive one another and know that vanity over vanity and all is vanity…… See house owners, degree holders, car owners lying on top of one another naked without shame…… See different hair styles on the head of women and here they are stoned dead.
Life is nothing, position is for a while, riches and wealth is temporary .I don’t know when am leaving this world but I have an idea of what will happen to me when am no more.
I want to be better than yesterday, I want to be more humble. I want to be more forgiving and I want to be more humane than before because I have seen that life is nothing and death is certain and it is a leveller whatever your status in life. Let us step on the sand softly as the floor is slippery. E je ki a se Aiye jeje oooo.
Repent and make peace with your God, after death no repentance.
Repentance is before death
