The new Commissioner of Police for the Kwara State Command, Mohammad Lawal Bagega, has admonished men and officers of the command to eschew abuse of fundamental rights of the citizens in the state to avoid stiff penalty.

He gave the stern warning when he met with top management officers, Heads of Tactical Units and Divisional Police Officers in the command in Ilorin.

Sp Okasanmi Ajayi, the Police Public Relations Officer
for the command, in a statement available to The Reporters, qouted the commissioner as expressing optimism that his policing philosophy would lead to the desired policing strategy of his dream in the state.

Bagega, who expressed “avowed determination to change the crime narrative”, reminded the personnel of the command on the need to imbibe the philosophy of policing with fear of God and human face.

He said: ” Officers should know that the main purpose of police existence in Kwara state is the people.

“As such, police officers must partner with relevant stakeholders in their respective areas of responsibility, bereft of any acrimony but with mutual confidence and respect which will ultimately make their job easy.”

According to him, illegal detention, extortion and abuses in general by the men will be met with stiff sanctions, adding that they should be proactive and do more of intelligence led policing.

He also called on the personnel to possess a positive outlook and change of attitude while working in line with the community policing strategy of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and in accordance with global best policing practices.

Bagega further emphasised on the need for the command to engage in
constant and sustained raids of criminal hide outs, prosecution of culpable suspects in such operations devoid of any pecuniary considerations.

He, however, reiterated his support and defence of police officers and men doing the right thing but stressed that indiscipline among any rank would be summarily punished.

The police commissioner thanked the government and people of the state for their support, cooperation and partnership.

He solicited for more of such collaboration for his desire for an effective and efficient police service in the state to become a reality and make the state very difficult for criminals to operate.
