The Federal government has responded to the clarion call by motorists and other road users for the rehabilitation of Ganaja road, Lokoja in Kogi state by rolling out earth moving equipment to commence work, the Reporter, an online publication, reports.
Our correspondent, who visited the road on Tuesday reports that cartapillar and otter equipment and engineering were seen at work.
The online publication gathered that the rehabilitation work on the road was consequent upon the the visit of the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello to the the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, where he stressed the need for the rehabilitation of the Federal federal road.
The road plays a strategic road in the transportation sector of not only the state but the country as large as it serves as the major link between the western axis of the state to the east as well as the south east and south west of the country.
The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar S. Ohere also lent voice to the call to make the road motorable with urgen call for the intervention of the Federal government to remedy the deplorable condition of roads in the state to curb accident, especially during “ember” months.
Consequent upon the series of efforts, the Federal Ministry of work and Housing and Federal Road Mentainance Agency commenced the rehabilitation of the road in order to encourage free traffic flow of traffic.
The Reporters gathered that the federal government has mobilised Almuk Logistics Concept Ltd to commence the rehabilitation of section III of the road, starting from 1+250-2+500.
According to a senior Engineer from Almuk Logistics Concept Ltd, Engr. Usiobaifo Albert, the rahabilitation goes beyond emergency work.
He said the work “will involve scarification of the existing asphaltic concrete wearing course with the replacement of 200m lateritic material, 200 mm crushed stone base, 600mm binder course, 400 mm wearing course with 2.75 m surface dressing on both sides.”
Albert appealed to the commuters plying the road and residents of Ganaja to bear any challenge posed by the job and promise to deliver “in no distant time”.
Some motorists and pedestrians who spoke with the online, commended government for the rehabilitation but urged effective mobilisation of the company carrying out the job as we as a call on the company to ensure the work that would stand the test of time.
