Victims of flood in Lokoja, kogi state, sacked by the natural disaster last week, have started sighing relief following accelerated recede by River Niger and its tributaries, The Reporters,an online publication reports.
Our correspondent who visited the bank of the Niger on Monday in Lokoja observed that the water has receded considerably, a development that made some victims to be making efforts to return to their houses.
Some victims who noted that their houses were not suitable enough for reoccupation, told our correspondent that they were optimistic that the challenge that sent them packing from their homes would soon be over.
The online media recalls that at the peak of the flood,victims living at the bank of River Niger, in their thousands, in and outside Lokoja relocated to safer places with friends and relations to avert calamity.
A visit to Ganaja-Ajaokuta road, which was heavily flooded,thus impeding human and vehicular movement last week, has also shown considerable reduction in water along the road, thus relieving motorists from impeded traffic.
The same picture prevailed at Kabawa as at the time our correspondent visited the road at about 10 a.m on Monday.
Transport fare from Zango daji, Army Barrack, post office, old market among other areas to the new market, Polytechnic and Felele highway,enroute Kabawa road, has also come down.
Senator Tunde Ogbeha,who had earlier donated relief materials to flood victims in Kogi Location Governmemt Area of the state, called on the Federal and the state government to find solution to the perennial flood in Lokoja and other parts of the state.
The state Ministry of Environment also donated some relief materials to the flood victims.
