Flood remains another night mare for residents of Lokoja, capital of kogi state and its environs, besides the recent two fire disasters; the felele tanker explosion and the razing of a multiple million naira electronic store, PEELIKNKS ELECTRONIKS that occurred in the area.
A correspondent of The Reporters,an online publication, who visited some areas in Lokoja on Monday reports that flood has submerged many houses along the bank of the River Niger at Gadumo and a
Adankolo quarters among other flood prone areas.
As a result of the threatening development, some residents whose houses have been submerged have relocated to safer places while others followed suit as a precautionary measure to avoid disaster.
Besides houses touched by the flood, it has also take control of some roads in the state capital impeding vehicular movement such as part of zone 8,other wise known as General Usman Katsina road and some portions of Ganaja-Ajaokuta road.
Kogi state has been predicted my NiMET as one of the numerous states in the federation that may experience flood this year and warned residents, especially those living at the bank of River Niger to relocate to safer areas.
The Felele incident left at least 23 persons dead while the razing of PEELINKS destroyed property worth several millions of naira.
One of the victims of annual flood in the state capital, Mal.Aminu Mohammed, said the flood had forced him to abandon his flood prone personal house for good.
Relocating to safer area, year in, year out has become monotonous to me and finally. So when came visiting us again this,year, we decided to relocated to safer area finally,”he told The Reporters.
He advised other residents in his shoe to follow his example and relocate to safer areas, for the safety of their lives, children and property.
The online outfit recalls that the state experienced the worst flood in its 29 years as a state, in 2012 during which three quarters of its 21 local government areas, including lokojs were submerged and property, including farm produce worth billions of naira were destroyed.
