The Nasarawa State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the attack and brutal killing of its former Treasurer, Benjamin Ekom of Federated Chapel.

Duaglobalnews gathered that Ekom was killed by unknown gunmen on Monday night at his residence in Washo village, Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Salihu Mohammed Alkali and Sunday John, Chairman and Secretary of the council, respectively made condemnation in a joint statement in Lafia on Tuesday.

The union described the attack on innocent residents of the state by criminal elements as one too many and urged that drastic and proactive measures must to be taken to protect lives and property in all nocks and crannies of the state.

The leadership of the union also urged the security agencies to fish out the killers of its former Treasurer and make them face the law.

NUK also called on members of the public to expose criminal elements in their midst, to rid the state of criminals.

The union, however, commended the efforts by the Federal and state governments toward tackling insecurity, but called on them to do more.

The journalists said such was necessary to ensure that the people were safe to go about their activities without fear and to avoid escalation of the situation beyond control.

They condoled with the family and friends of the deceased and prayed God to forgive his shortcomings and grand him eternal rest.
