(Delta)

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Delta State chapter on Monday, commenced its three-day warning strike over alleged refusal of the State Government to implement the Special COVID-19 Hazard Allowance for health workers.

Duaglobalnews gathered that the warning strike is aimed ensuring that the state government implement the scheme, in view of the risk posed by COVID-19 to frontline health workers.

At the State-owned Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, the place was devoid of the presence of medical doctors as at the time of this report.

The State Chairman of NMA, Dr Omo Ekene, expressed dismay that many members of the association had tested positive to the virus while in the line of duty.

He, however, noted that other states had implemented the allowance.

Duaglobalnews learns that the strike has received the full support of medical doctors in the state as exemplified by the level of compliance at the Central Hospitals in Warri, Ughelli and Sapele.

Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, also declared support for the warning strike.
