Secondary school students in country,forced to be on leave by COVID-19 pandemic, and teachers ad well as parents will soon sigh a relief as secondary schools in the country will reopen on August 4, according to the Federal government.
Duaglobalnews reports that this was one of the unanimous decisions taken at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Commissioners of Education of the 36 states and the Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT).
The Online publication gathered that proprietors of private schools and Chief Executives of examination bodies also participated in the meeting.
The Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Ben Bem Goong said in a statement that the existing classes should resume immediately after the Eid-el- Kabir break, from August,4 2020, to enable them prepare for the WAEC examinations starting from August 17, 2020.
According to him, the meeting also resolved that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and public spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country.
This he added was to enable them fast-track preparations for safe reopening, as agreed.
The meeting, Goong said, noted that another meeting would be convened on Tuesday between the Federal Ministry of Education and Chief Executives of examination bodies.
These bodies, he disclosed, are: NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS, to harmonise their examination dates which will be conveyed to stakeholders, expeditiously, by the Federal Ministry of Education.
