As the increase in the cases of Coronavirus in the world hit more than 8 million and over 19,000 in Nigeria respectively, two NGOs in kogi state have extended their hands of fellowship to 150 vulnerable households in kogi state.
The NGOs:ActionAid Nigeria and Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change In Development (PIBCID),have reached out to the affected vulnerables in Igalamela and Adavi Local Government Areas of the state with palliatives.
The Executive Director, PIBCID, ActionAid’s local rights partners in Kogi state, Halima Oyiza Sadiq,while distributing the pilliatives in one of the occasions, said the gesture was part of effort by the NGOs to cushion the effects created by COVID-19 on the vulnerable people in the two LGAs.
Sadiq disclosed that the programme was geared toward supporting 1,200 vulnerable households in the state with palliatives.
She appealed to the people of the benefitting communities and the state in general to strictly observe all laid down protocols, stressing that “COVID-19 is real.”
The executive director advisef the to usr face masks,sanitizers, hand washing and maintaining social distancing among others precautionary measures to guard against contracting the deadly disease.
“With strict adherence to the protocols aimed at checking the spread of the deadly virus, the people would stay safe and healthy,”Sadiq told the people
In their responses, two representatives of the benefitting communities; Usman Ichigo and Zuliat Haruna described the gesture as timely,stressing that they along way and greatly too in helping them to reduce the difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Duaglobalnews reports that apart from the two cases of Coronavirus which the authorities of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said kogi state had some days ago, and which state government had denied, the state has not recorded any case of COVID-19 since then.
