Residents of Badariya area, Mobile Police Barrack, Bayan-Kara and parts of Gesse III in Birnin Kebbi have cried to the the state government to assist them cushion the effect of heavy rain that destroyed no fewer than 50 of their houses on Friday.
Many of the victims, who spoke with journalists on the unfortunate incident expressed shock over the incident.
Malam Isyaku Mohammed, a resident of the area, estimated that over 50 houses might have been affected by the rainstorm.
“One might not be wrong to say over 50 houses have been destroyed in different parts of the state capital.
The victims, however, anchored their fate in the incident to act of God.
“We have accepted what happened as the will of God Almighty, who does what He wants at the time He wants, without questioning from anybody,’’ Mohammed said.
Contributing, Mr Isaac Musa, another, victim said the rainstorm which started in the late evening destroyed a number of houses “not only here in Badariya but in other places too’’.
He called on the state government, NGOs and wealthy Nigerians to come the aid of the victims, to enable them resettle and pick up their lives again.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the state, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, has visited the affected communities and sympathised with the residents as well as used the visit assess the level of destruction to property at Badariya.
A statement by Alhaji Abubakar Mu’azu-Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary, the Government House said the governor visited the scene on Friday evening to assess the level of destruction to property at Badariya.
Bagudu promised that the state government would assist the victims with relief materials.
Dakingari quoted the governor as saying that an assessment of the affected houses would be made to quantify the extent of damage.
“Bagudu advised the victims to regard the incident as an act of God Almighty and prayed to Allah to provide them with succour,” the Chief Press Secretary said.
