The recent spate of crime in Kogi State notwithstanding, Governor Yahaya Bello has expressed the determination of his administration to arrest the menace, saying that his desire was to see a crime free kogi state.
Bello said this during the inauguration of the State Community Policing Advisory Committee (SCPC) and the State Community Policing Committee (SCPC) in Lokoja on Monday
Represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja,the governor praised President Muhammadu Buhari for the successful attainment of Community Policing Policy under the current administration and achieved under the leadership of the incumbent Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu.
Bello said the policy became imperative because experience has shown that crimes were committed by people in societies inhabited by people and not in space or by aliens.
The Governor expressed his readiness to continue to ensure the security of lives and property in the state through increased partnership with all security agencies in the state.
He expressed delight on the composition of the members of the committee, stressing that it was all encompassing and would further strengthen the efforts his government had put in place to arrest perpetrators of the recent criminal activities in the state.
In his address, the Inspector- General of Police, whose address was delivered by DIG Lawal Shehu, urged the committee to ensure it is made up people with good character and not criminals or ex convicts.
He suggested that workers whose sources of income were known should also be made members of the committee “since they can be vouched for as people with legitimate sources of income.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ede Ayuba, expressed his readiness to work with the committee to ensure a crime free Kogi State.
Ede, who said that, “policing is the business of all”, called on everyone to work with the committee to ensure safety of lives and property.
The Ohimegye Igu and Chairman of Lokoja/Kogi Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Abdulrazak Isah thanked the state government for finding the members worthy to serve in the committee.
He spoke on behalf of the Attah of Igala,His Royal Highness Michael Amen Oboni, who the online gathered is the Chairman of the committee.
The traditional ruler promised to bring his experience to ensure the attainment of the aims and objectives of the committee.
In his vote of thanks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), assured the people of the state of the success of the efforts government had put recent security challenges in the state to rest.
