A member of the Kogi State House of House of Assembly, Mr Paul Enema, representing Dekina/Biraidu Constituency, has blamed politicians for the increased insecurity in the country.
He stated this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the second legislative session of the 7th Assembly in the state, followed by matters of urgent public importabce by some members of the Assembly.
The lawmaker noted that whereas, huge amount of money was usually allocated for the security of the nation, experience had shown that this was not usually utilised effectively for the purpose intended.
He, however, commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his promptness toward security loopholes in the state.
Enema called on politicians to do their best in putting more measures in place with committed resources to stem insecurity in Nigeria.
Another lawmaker, Mohammed Abubakar Tanko, representing Kotonkarfe Constituency, lamented the rate of kidnapping, especially in his constituency.
“It is no longer news that that the evil men are all over, kidnapping and perpectrating other crimes against innocent members of the society,”he said.
He, however, urged the state government to intensify efforts in putting more measures in place to check insecurity with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and make them face justice.
Contributing, another legislator,Musa Jimoh,representing Yagba East Constituency condemned the recent armed robbery at the branch of First Bank in Isanlu and the killing of eight police personnel and two civilians.
The lawmaker, who expressed delight that some of the armed robbery suspects had been arrested, commended the state government for the feat and called on the police to ensure that the suspects were made to face justice.
The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole, who also condemned the rate of armed robbery in the state,describing the development as very saddening.
He appealed to the conscience of criminals to eschew their evil ways, reminding them that “one who kills by sword will die by sword.”
He described the Isanlu robbery attack and kidnapping at Gegu as particularly a sad development.
Kolawole blamed some communities for refusing to give police and other security agents, useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals in the society.
Kolawole announced the setting up of a 7-mam ad-hoc committee to pay condolence visit to the family of late Nicholas Ofodile,the owner of the popular Super Market in Lokoja who lost his life during kidnapping at Gegu on Lokoja-Abuja road last week.
