Heavy rainfall clams 4 lives in Kwara

No fewer than 4  persons have been feared dead and one body recovered due to the sweeping away of a bridge at Oke-Erin in Ilorin, Kwara state by a heavy rainfall  on Saturday night.

 

Duaglobalnews correspondent in Ilorin reports that the incident claimed the lives of five persons inside the car.

Meanwhile, The Kwara state fire service on Sunday said it had recovered the corpse of one of the victims of the flood

The Head of media and publicity, of the establishment,Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, made the disclosure in a statement in Ilorin.

“The Kwara State fire Service was summoned to a rescue operation at Oke Erin area last night at about 22:30 hours,in an incident involving a Vehicle with 5 people inside.

“The bridge was submerged by the torrent flowing over the bridge due to the downpour.

“One of the passengers alighted from the vehicle to check the depth of the torrent but unfortunately, suddenly the bridge collapsed and got him sunk.

“Two passengers alighted from the vehicle and they got sunk too,” adding that the fire service was working round the clock to .

He said the fire service had been working round the clock to recover those victims.

“However, Mr Okechukwu Orwabo has been found dead at Coca cola road, the State Fire Service will leave no stone unturned to recover the bodies of the remaining victims.
