The Olam Group of companies has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth N1 million to the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), chapter.
Presenting the items to the doctors, Mrs Uduak Eweka,the Human Resources Manager said of Olam Group of Companies,felt concerned that health workers were being exposed health hazards and affected with COVID 19, in line of duty in the country.
“Olam decided to reach out on what can be done to help protect our health workers,” she said.
The manager also noted that initially, the company was initially involved in distribution of palliatives to different communities in Kwara but felt the need to extend such gesture to the front line health workers.
She called for all hands to be on deck in the fight against COVID 19, adding that nothing was too small, adding that everybody had a role to play in to fight against the virus.
Eweka disclosed that Olam was also reaching out to other companies and philanthropists to get them on board by donating PPE for protecting the frontline health workers from COVID 19.
She further said “COVID 19 has affected every sphere of human life, be it education, health, religious and business.”
Receiving the PPE, Dr Olosunde Lanre, the chairman of the chapter commended the company for the gesture, describing it as humanitarian and timely.
“on behalf of the entire members of the Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, we hereby acknowledge and accept your generous and very thoughtful donations to us in the face of this COVID-19 pandemic.
“The provision of these personal protective gears would definitely go a long way in empowering us and protecting us, as front-line health workers in Kwara State as we confront this scourge head on.
“Your core values of partnership, stretch and ambition had further inspired us, and we look forward to forging lasting partnerships even beyond this COVID-19 period,” he said.
Olosunde urged other companies, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and individuals to also help protect doctors in the front line against COVID-19 through similar gesture.
