2 Muslim clerics in Bauchi state fined N20,000 each for flouting lockdown order

Two religious leaders (imams) in Bauchi state have been fined N20,000 each for flouting the partial lockdown order aimed at checking the spread of Coronavrus in the state.

The State Mobile Court handed down them the sentence, following their conviction.

They were convicted, following their arrangement, for leading Friday prayers in their various mosques in contravention of the state’s partial Lockdown order.

The partial lockdown makes it an offence for religious gatherings in the state and the leading of Friday prayers in the mosques in the state.

The two Imams: Malam Musa Hassan and Malam Dahiru Alhaji, are from Dunkui Ambi village in Misau Local Government Area of the state.

Muktar Abubakar,the presiding magistrate, warned that the court would not take it lightly with anyone found going against the law of the state on the ongoing partial lock down.

Abubakar called on the people of the state to obey the constituted authorities and await further information from the state government.
