Adam Ahmed Rufai of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Patigi Constituency bye-election into the Kwara State House of Assembly with the highest votes of 10,354 to defeat other contestants.
The Returning Officer for the byr-election, Dr Abdulazeez Ishola Musbau of University of Ilorin announced the results today in Patigi.
Duaglobalnews reports that AAC, ADC, APC, APM, NNPP and PDP took part in the election while Mohammed Salihu Yahaya of PDP followed with 4,623 votes.
Musbau said, “Adam Ahmed Rufai of the All Progressives Congress (APC), having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of vote cast is hereby declared winner.”
Based on the INEC records, out of 43,695 Permanent Voter Cards, (PVCs) in the possession of the electorate in the constituency, 15,654 PVCs were used in the exercise, representing 35 per cent of total electorate.
Rufai replaces his late brother, Saidu Ahmed Rufai who died in December last year, following a short illness.
Reacting to the victory, the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state, Mrs Aisha Ahman Pategi, an indigene of the area; expressed joy over Rufai’s electoral victory.
“The victory is a sign that APC is still much on ground in Patigi, although it was a mixed feeling because we lost a life, necessitating the conduct of the bye-election. We give glory to the almighty Allah for this victory,” she said.
