Lokoja

Kogi State Government says it has no plan to appoint Liason Officers or Caretaker Committees to manage the affairs of local government councils in the state.

Mr Kingsley Fanw, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, said this in a statement in Lokoja on Saturday to dismiss such development as being rumoured in certain quarters in the state.

Duaglobalnews recalls Governor Yahaya Bello relieved the 21 Local Government Administrators few days ago and ordered them to hand over the mantle of leadership to Director of Local Government in their respective council.

Fanwo said: As a promoter of constitutionalism under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, the State Government wishes to make it clear that it will not subscribe to putting in place, governmental structures alien to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“By the constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission, the state government has demonstrated readiness to conduct election in order to enable the people determine their representatives at the third tier of Government.

“We urge the people of our dear state to believe in the resolve of the state government not to subscribe to any unconstitutional structure at the local government level.

“The Governor is committed to conducting a free, fair and credible Local Government election as soon as legally practicable.

“Whatever will be done between now and the conduct of the election will be constitutional.”
