A member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Mr Olusola Kilani Olumo,representing Ijumu Constituency, has urged the state government to set up Joint Security Task Force to tackle kidnapping and other criminality taking their tolls on some innocent members of public in the state.
Kilani gave the advice while moving a Motion of Urgent Public Importance during plenary on Friday.
The motion is titled; “MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE ON THE HIGH RATES OF KIDNAPING ALONG KABBA OBAJANA LOKOJA ROAD.”
In the motion,the legislator said:”The high rate of kidnapping along Kabba – Obajana – Lokoja Road is becoming alarming by the day.
“Road users can no longer use that road without the fear of being kidnapped. On that particular road, the fear of kidnappers is now the beginning ofwisdom to road users.
“While passing through the road, one will see the heavy presence of security personnel on the said road, but unfortunately that haven’t stopped this children of Lucifer called kidnappers from operating on the road.
“One must honestly commend the Kogi State Government on the proactive measures taken so far on the issue of security, but the kidnapping rate on the Kabba – Obajana – Lokoja road is a peculiar case that needs a new approach to curb the menace on that road.
“While passing through the road, one will see the heavy presence of security personnel on the said road, but unfortunately that haven’t stopped this children of Lucifer called kidnappers from operating on the road.
“One must honestly commend the Kogi State Government on the proactive measures taken so far on the issue of security, but the rate of kidnapping on the Kabba – Obajana – Lokoja road is a peculiar case that needs a new approach to curb the menace on that road.
“I want to urge this honourable house to as a matter of urgent importance appeal to the state government to set up a Joint Security Task Force on Kabba Obajana Lokoja road.
The legislator also urged the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command to as a matter of urgency deplore men and officers of the command to mount 24 hours security surveillance on the hot spots of the said road.”
He also called on the Commandant of the Kogi State Vigilante group to work with the local people” in safeguarding our forest.”
Contributing,Barr.Cosmas Henry Atabor of Igalamela/Odolu Constituency, while seconding the motion, sought for an amendment to expand the motion to all highways and boarders of the state.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr Ahmed Mohammed of Ankpa I Constituency, in support of the motion, noted the need to appreciate Gov. Yahaya Bello for creating a MOPOL BASE at Obajana – Kabba Road, but added that there was need to do more.
Mr Attajachi Musa of Idah Constituency, while also supporting the motion, stressed the importance of not only seeking security presence in Kabba – Obajana – Lokoja Road, but in every nook and cranny of the state particularly in the there Senatorial districts of .
The Speaker, while ruling on motion, called for adoptio of local security mechanism for effective security coverage.
Duaglobalnews recalls that no fewer than 16 persons have been kidnapped in the western and eastern flanks of the state last Sunday.
