Some residents of Lokoja, kogi state capital, have called on Governor Yahaya Bello to establish more Mobile Police bases as away of curbing rising crime wave in the state to the barest minimum.
They made the call while speaking with a correspondent of Duaglobalnews, an online media organisation, in Lokoja on Thursday.
According to them, limiting such secure outfits to Okene and Kabba-Obajana areas may not solve the enormity of crime situation and its social and economic implications on the life of law abiding people in the state as desired.
“I am appreciating what the govonor has done for Okene and Kabba axises, interms of establishing mopol bases.
” But let it be established in Ajaokuta/Itobe and to the boundary between Kogi and Enugu State, Mal. Yahaya Adams, former Manager, Kogi United FC advised the governor.
Mrs Aisha Aliyu, who toed the line of Adams, said crime situation in the state had got to a point where by much effort should be surmoned by the state government and the private sector “to safe us from kidnappers and other criminal elements.
“They have been tormenting the lives of innocence residents and those transiting the state,” she said.
“A resident, who wants his identity veiled, called on the political class to help the state government in the fight against crime in the state.
He said they could do this by engaging their followers, mostly youths, who had nothing doing after election, in productive ventures such as giving them soft loans to embark on viable business for reliance.
“When youths that indulge in kidnapping and other forms of criminality get some of these rich politicians engage them in viable social and economic activities, they will forget about these criminal acts and join the concerted efforts to move the state to greater heights.
“In fact, the biggest beneficiary will be the general public because there will be great decline in crime rate and we can travel to every nook and cranny of the kogi state without thinking of kidnapping among others.
“What more, we will be sleeping with our two eyes closed without recourse to who is knocking at our door with criminal intention,”he said.
Others also commended Bello administration for the efforts of its efforts to stem the tide of crime but said that there was room for improvement.
Duaglobalnews recalls that Bello announced the establishment of two mopol bases on Kabba-Obajana road and in Okene to wipe out kidnapping,other crimes and get rid of criminal elements in the two areas.
The governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mal. Abdulkareem Asuku, disclosed this when he received the Commissioner of Police in charge of Mobile Police Force(mopol), Mohammed Akeera in Lokoja.
