In consonance with the concept of NGOs complementing government’s efforts to better the lot of the governed, an NGO, Anneozeng Ogozi Aid Foundation (AOAF) has boosted the educational and health development of Maida community and the only school in the area.
This the foundation did by donating educational materials and medicines to the community in Abuja during weekend.
Its Founder, Mrs Anneozeng Ogozi, who made the donation, said the NGO found it necessary to embark on the gesture, to enhance the educational aspiration of the community.
She itemised the content of the donation to include: books, pencils,erasers, sharpeners, pens, adding that they were also aimed at helping to improve education development within the community.
Ogozi,who noted that the community had one non-functional hospital, added that the development made the NGO to also provide the village with malaria test kits, drips, deworm medicines amongst others to boost public health in the area.
She said the donation was also in realisation of the fact that the educational and medical system in Kaida was poor and should not be left to government alone in terms of intervention, adding that NGOs and other good spirited Nigerians had tremendous role to play in this regard.
The founder expressed concern that the condition of the children in the community needed intervention, noting that the students looked “really malnourished with blotted stomachs” while their hair had changed had changed colour to red, especially the girls.
Ogozi promised that her foundation would place 20 students on scholarship, adding the method of selection be on random process to help them their educational aspiration.
The founder later increased the number to 36 students due to what she described as the passion expressed by majority of the students,most of whom were orphans but yearned for the scholarship.
Apart from the orphans, students noted for best performance in their academic pursuit also benefited from the scheme.
According to her, the students need assistance to further their education,but nothing that they wouldnot be able to afford the financial implication on their own to pursue such goal.
Miss Mary Paul, a primary 3 pupli who responded on behalf of other beneficiariesy of the scholarship,thanked the NGO for the gesture.
She appealed public spirited Nigerians to assist in restructuring the community school to enhance its physical infrastructure.
Mrs Cecilia Nuhu, a missionary, said that she had been a teacher in the school since 2014, adding that she had been receiving N10,000 monetary support from Harvesters of Christ Ministry,Kaduna.
