The Magongo Traditional Council has moved decisively against the growing menace of hard drug abuse in the community, sealing all identified drug-selling points and issuing a strong warning to dealers and users to immediately desist from the illegal trade or face the consequences of their action.

Some members of the Magongo Traditional Council sealing identified hard drug sales points in a decisive local crackdown on drug-related activities.

The council, in a statement available to The Reporters from Magongo on Friday, said the action comes amid mounting concern over what community leaders described as a dangerous and fast-spreading trend that is threatening the moral strength, unity, and future of Magongo.

According to the council, the abuse of hard drugs among youths has reached alarming levels, adding that such negative development can no longer be treated as a private issue.

Traditional authorities expressed worry that many young people in the community are reportedly becoming mentally unstable as a result of drug intake, while some cases of untimely deaths have also been linked to substance abuse.

They warned that the situation poses a serious threat to peace and development in the area, if urgent steps are not taken.

Acting under its traditional mandate, the council ordered the immediate closure of all identified drug sales points and centres within Magongo, warning that anyone found continuing the sale or distribution of illicit substances would face severe sanctions.

The council described the action as a necessary intervention to cut off supply channels that have made drugs easily accessible to young people.

In a strong message to the youths, the council urged them to reject hard drugs and protect their future, warning that substance abuse destroys ambition, weakens the mind, and turns promising lives into shadows of themselves.

It emphasized that the future of the community rests on the choices of its young people, adding that urgent collective action is needed to stop the growing crisis.

Meanwhile, a woman caught in such illicit business has shown remorse, pleaded for mercy.

The National President of Magongo Development Association,MDA, Prince Jordan Akpata, told our correspondent in a telephone interview from Magongo on Friday that the community is now considering a memorandum of understanding with her to prevent a recurrence and reinforce community vigilance against drug abuse.
