An elder statesman in Niger state,Alhaji Danlami Umar, has appealed to the father of the Governor of state, retired Col. Sani Bello to add voice toward ensuring the actualisation of Baro sea port, for the greater benefits of the people of the state.

He also made passionate appeal the two former Heads of State from the state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and General Abdulsalam Alhaji Abubakar to do same.

Umar, who is the Ndejin Bosso, made the appeal at a press briefing in Minna said: “It is unfortunate that Governor Abubakar Bello rarely exhibited a sense of commitment to pursuing a cause that will be of immense benefit to the generality of Nigerlites.

“If Governor Bello had shown enough commitment, the actualization of the abandoned Baro Port project, inaugurated President Muhammadu Buhari few years ago, would have been completed.

“The level of commitment exhibited will command the attention of seriousness of President on the project.”

He, therefore, pleaded with Governor Bello to as a matter of urgency, suspend all the multiple small projects and focuse on the only awaiting that of Agaie to Baro port road because of its importance and benefit, not only to Niger state but also the entire northern states.

Danlami added: “With Baro inland Port, we are connected to the world and multiple industries would be established in Niger state and other neighbouring states will reduce the level of unemployment in the region.

“Unfortunately, Niger state government is careless about the project, government must show interest by creating accessible road, especially from Agaie to Baro.

The completion of the project, he argued, would also pave way for the relocation of some government activities and MDAs to such as Ministry of Transport and Finance, create markets and as well tourist’s attractions to Baro.

Umar, who noted that Kaduna state government had created dry port already because of the leadership creativity and foresight shown by Governor Ahmed el-Rufai, challenged the Niger Governor not to waste the opportunity which according which according to him will also attract investors.
