The Ministry of Education on Monday, said the resumption of all classes would be in phases, just as it reeled-out conditions for the safe reopening of the schools across all levels.
The Minister of Education, Mal. Adamu Adamu and the Minister of Education,Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, in a statement they signed in Abuja on Monday,this was part of the extension to the relaxation of lockdown imposed due to COVID-19
They, however, stressed that before schools could be reopened, risk assessments must be undertaken with the best interests of the learners, teachers and other education personnel considered.
While maintaining that more than 1.5 billion children and young people, globally, had been affected by school and university closures, the ministers said the ministry in its guidelines, had identified programmes that “will guarantee the recovery of learning gaps.”
In the guideline, the ministry has recommended distance learning, satellite centres and online teaching as parts of the conditions given to states, adding that that schools should be fumigated.
The Minister also make it mandatory that classes should be restructured in such a way that it will accommodate social distancing.
Another core condition given for the reopening of the schools is that, teachers must be trained in hygiene management and other safety measures.
“The scenarios require organising learners and children into small groups with consistent membership and compliance with the risk mitigation strategies,” the ministry added.
