The Niger State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has called on the Federal and State Governments to take decisive and urgent steps to ease the growing hardship facing Nigerians and bring an end to the persistent wave of killings across the country.
Delivering his Easter message titled “Be Hopeful, Be Resilient, Be Compassionate,” on Sunday in Minna,the cleric, however ,urged Christians to embrace the true essence of the season by showing love and kindness to all, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
Reflecting on the significance of Easter, which commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Bishop Bulus,who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese,described the period as a celebration of hope, renewal, and God’s enduring love for humanity.
He noted that the season marks the culmination of the Lenten period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, calling on believers to extend generosity to the less privileged, including widows, orphans, and those struggling to survive.
“As we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, let us share love with one another and support those in dire need,” he said.
The CAN chairman, however, expressed deep concern over the continued loss of innocent lives in various parts of the country, stressing that the killings have not only claimed lives but also disrupted farming activities and displaced countless citizens.
He specifically appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts towards ending the incessant killings, particularly in Plateau State, where communities have been repeatedly attacked.
The religious leader offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives in recent violent incidents in some parts of the country.
Bishop Bulus further Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayer for the nation’s leaders, seeking divine guidance for unity, peace, and good governance.
He prayed especially for Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, asking God to grant him the wisdom and strength to successfully implement the “New Niger Agenda.”
While commending Christians for successfully completing the Lenten season, the cleric encouraged them to continue living exemplary lives rooted in love, compassion, mercy, and self-sacrifice as a reflection of Christ’s teachings.
Looking ahead, he also called on citizens,particularly Christians,to actively participate in the 2027 general elections by turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights, emphasizing that inclusive governance remains key to national development.
In a message that blended hope with urgency, Bishop Bulus reminded Nigerians that even in challenging times, faith, resilience, and compassion remain powerful tools for healing and rebuilding the nation.
