The Federal government has been urged to use digital technology to enhance teaching and learning during this period of COVID-19 pandemic.
A Professor of Epidemiology and Disease Control and the out going Vice-Chancellor, Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, Professor Taofeek Ibrahim,gave the advice while featuring on a Correspondents’ chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)programme in Ilorin.
According to him, with the rise in the number of people affected by COVID-19, it would not be safe to reopen schools in the country for now.
Ibrahim further urged government to follow the trend and adopt the use of digital technology to teach students while staying at the comfort of their rooms.
He explained that teachers could open a platform through which the time table could be uploaded on the basis of subjects, to enable students prepare for the lessons on line.
He said that Lecturers could delivere lectures, using a platform with audio visual adding that examinations could also be taken for those in higher institutions.
The don also urged Nigerians to be patience with the situation and support government effort to flatten the curve of the pandemic in the country.
He also appealed to parents to encourage their children to use the opportunity of the break, occasioned by the Coronavirus to read their books.
