Political tension heightened in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta state on Monday as the Bomadi Diasporas Movement called for the recall of some councillors accused of plotting the impeachment of the council chairman, Hon. Dagidi Andaye.
Speaking to journalists in Warri, the group’s leader, Hon. Comrade Godday Zipamor Ogbein Ama, alleged that the councillors were pursuing an agenda capable of destabilising the local government and undermining democratic governance.
Ama claimed that the alleged impeachment plot was part of a broader plan by the disgruntled councillors to create political chaos within the council before defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“These actions show a total disregard for Bomadi’s leadership structure and the democratic mandate freely given by the people,” Ama said.
He warned that if urgent steps were not taken, the situation could degenerate into a breakdown of order in the local government, calling on the Delta State Government to intervene swiftly and decisively to safeguard peace and stability.
The diaspora group expressed strong and unwavering support for Chairman Dagidi Andaye, insisting that his administration has remained focused on development, unity and good governance in Bomadi.
According to Ama, the council has enjoyed relative stability and progress under Andaye’s leadership, which, he said, should not be sacrificed on the altar of political ambition.
The group urged relevant authorities to protect democratic institutions at the local government level and ensure that Bomadi is not plunged into avoidable political crisis.
