Sen. Abubakar Sadiku Ohere, has declared his full support for former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, following Bello’s decision to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a widely circulated statement on Tuesday, Senator Ohere expressed appreciation to his friends, supporters and political associates for their unwavering loyalty through what he described as both “smooth and rough seasons,” noting that their steadfastness has continued to strengthen his political resolve.
Reacting to Bello’s entry into the senatorial race, Ohere described the move as timely, strategic and critical to the political stability and development of Kogi Central.
“Kogi Central needs Alhaji Yahaya Bello at this time. It needs his courage, political weight, experience and capacity to confront challenges head-on. This is not just another contest; it is a defining moment for the district,” he said.
While acknowledging that the former governor’s declaration may have surprised some political observers, the senator stressed that leadership is anchored on responsibility and service rather than sentiment. He urged political stakeholders to view the development as a call for unity, inclusion and purposeful engagement.
Senator Ohere also appealed to his supporters and political structure across the district to prepare for what he described as a “collective journey,” emphasising the need for broad-based mobilisation and outreach to sceptical voices.
“I will deploy all my political weight, structure and goodwill in support of this cause. Let us close ranks, reach beyond familiar lines and work together for a greater collective victory,” he stated.
The senator clarified that he remains calm and confident about his own political future, describing politics as a long-term endeavour with evolving seasons and opportunities.
He reaffirmed his respect and loyalty to Yahaya Bello, whom he credited for mentorship and consistent support by calling for unity and resilience among his supporters, expressing optimism that the future remains bright for Kogi Central.
