The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Niger State Command, has said it has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against illicit drug trafficking, with the seizure of large consignments of controlled substances and the arrest of several suspects across the state.

The State Commander.of the organization, Shehu Numau Gwadaba, disclosed this in Mina on Sunday while briefing journalists in , Minna on the command’s major successes between January and December 2025.

He revealed that NDLEA operatives intercepted a Sharon vehicle in Suleja Local Government Area conveying a huge cache of drugs, including 50,000 tablets of Diazepam, 30,000 tablets of Ifnux, 5,406 bottles of Codeine syrup, and 5,100 tablets of Tramadol.

According to the commander, in the first week of December 2025, the agency also intercepted a Mercedes truck in Mokwa Local Government Area loaded with 44 bags of Cannabis sativa weighing over 400 kilograms, adding that the driver of the vehicle was arrested and is currently being investigated.

Gwadaba further disclosed that in one of the command’s biggest operations, NDLEA seized over three tonnes of Cannabis sativa, arrested four suspects, and impounded four vehicles.

He said the suspects were prosecuted and each sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, following the recovery of 244 bags of the substance weighing more than 3,000 kilograms.

The NDLEA boss in the state also revealed another seizure in Borgu Local Government Area, where he said that operatives recovered 11 bags of Cannabis sativa alongside quantities of Tramadol.

He explained that Borgu is one of the flashpoints for armed banditry in the state, noting that criminals often rely on drugs as stimulants to carry out their activities, making the area attractive to drug traffickers seeking to supply illicit substances.

In a related operation, Gwadaba said NDLEA officers arrested one Theophilus Ordo in Suleja in possession of cocaine, cannabis, cough syrups, and other illicit drugs, describing the development as “quite worrisome.”

The commander commended members of the public for their continued support and cooperation in terms of availing the organization useful information leading to some arrests , urging those involved in drug trafficking to abandon the trade.

He warned that the long arm of the law would eventually catch up with anyone who refuses to turn a new leaf, no matter where they hide within the state.
