…Rector Warns Student Leaders Against Fake News, Manipulation.

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has formally inaugurated new executive members of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) and the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the 200-Twin Lecture Theatre of the Main Campus, drew members of management, staff, students and invited guests.
In his address, the Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, congratulated the newly elected leaders and urged them to uphold transparency, accountability, and genuine, student-centered unionism. He advised them to remain faithful to their campaign promises and ensure their activities reflect service, sincerity and responsibility.
Professor Usman warned the new executives against allowing themselves to be manipulated by mischief makers, especially those known for spreading false information within the Polytechnic community.
He dismissed rumours alleging the presence of bandits on campus, describing the claims as “completely false.” The peaceful and well-attended inauguration ceremony, he said, was proof that the institution remains safe and stable.
“There is no bandit in Kogi Poly,” the Rector declared.
“We are peacefully and successfully inaugurating the newly elected SUG leaders today.”
He commended the Students’ Union Electoral Committee for conducting a free, fair and transparent election, and praised candidates who conceded defeat for exhibiting sportsmanship. He urged the winners to lead with humility and maturity.
Professor Usman reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to students’ welfare and academic excellence. He also restated the Polytechnic’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, drug abuse, hooliganism and other social vices.
He further warned that any form of discrimination—religious, ethnic, or tribal—would not be condoned, encouraging the student leaders to promote unity and peaceful coexistence.
The Rector also appreciated the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for sustaining a secure and enabling learning environment, noting that the stability enjoyed on campus reflects the governor’s commitment to good governance and proactive security management.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Students’ Union Electoral Committee, Engr. Dr. Mohammed Alhaji Adamu, commended students for their orderly conduct during the elections and thanked management for its support.
In goodwill messages, the Dean of Student Services, Mr. Abdulmumuni Umar Onimisi; the Chief Security Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Attah Onuh; and the Director of Legal Services, Barrister Joy Ajuma Mamuda, urged the new executives to promote peace, lawfulness and responsible leadership.
In his acceptance speech, the new SUG President, Abdulmalik Abdulwahab, thanked his co-contestants for their sportsmanship and promised an inclusive, service-driven administration. The NAKOSS President, Wale Sheyi Godwin, pledged effective representation for Kogi State students in the institution.
Both leaders commended the Rector for promptly addressing the rumoured bandit attack, describing the claim as politically motivated and aimed at destabilizing the institution.
Highlights of the event included the administration of the oath of office and the presentation of certificates of return to all elected SUG and NAKOSS executives.
