The Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has described the defection of former Governor Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a major political breakthrough for the ruling party.

Speaking on Monday at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja during Capt. Wada’s formal reception into the APC, Governor Ododo added that the former governor’s decision underscored the party’s growing influence and appeal.

“Today, the list of decampees is endless. In Kogi State, the opposition has been grounded. “Kogi is APC and APC is Kogi State,” Ododo declared.

He credited the renewed popularity of the APC to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The highlighted the administration’s commitment to development across the state, adding that ongoing projects, including roads, primary healthcare facilities, and the state airport, reflects the government’s resolve.

“We won’t be distracted by critics on social media. My mission is to unite and serve our people,” he stated.

The Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the occasion, commended Governor Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello for strengthening the APC’s appeal.

He described the event as a “coalition-building moment,” assuring new entrants that the party would not take their loyalty for granted.

Capt. Wada, who governed Kogi State from 2012 to 2016 on the platform of PDP, said his decision to join the APC was informed by the party’s progressive agenda.

“The APC is a party with vision. The price of fuel is falling, foreign exchange rates are stabilizing, and infrastructure projects are happening across the country. These are the reasons I’m here today,” Wada said.

The ceremony attracted prominent political figures, party loyalists, and supporters from across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
