Barely a month after eight out of ten councillors in Chanchaga Local Government Council (LGC) of Niger State suspended their chairman over alleged financial impropriety and related issues, another council chairman has faced the same fate.
This time, the Chairman of Bosso Local Government, Hajiya Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso, was suspended by seven councillors who accused her of abuse of office and violation of local government laws, among other allegations.
Incidentally, Chanchaga and Bosso,the two local government areas that make up Minna, the state capital are now embroiled in political turmoil just months before the November transition, in line with the state government’s timetable.
Our correspondent reports that Hajiya Ladidi, fondly known as “Alert”, is the only female council chairman under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and is currently serving her second term.
Her suspension comes despite Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration’s effort to encourage greater women’s participation in politics.
A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), she defected to the APC and won her first term as chairman during the administration of Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.
The suspension order, is dated Tuesday, August 26, 2025, stated:
It states that, “Pursuant to the provisions of the Local Government Laws of Niger State, and following due process, the Bosso Local Government Legislative Council, at its duly convened sitting of today, Tuesday, 26th August, 2025, considered a motion on allegations of gross misconduct against the Chairman of Bosso Local Government Council, Hon. Ladidi Rakiya Bawa Bosso.
“Upon deliberations, and in strict compliance with the law, a vote was taken. Out of the total membership of the Council, seven councillors, constituting the statutory three-quarter (3/4) majority, voted in favour of your suspension.”
The allegations against the chairman include abuse of office, violation of local government laws, financial impropriety, harassment, extortion, intimidation, failure to convene statutory council meetings, and other acts deemed inconsistent with the oath of office.
The resolution further stated that the suspension takes immediate effect, with a formal notice transmitted to the governor of the state to set up a committee of inquiry into the allegations and report its findings within the prescribed period.
