The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has engaged with the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to deepen youth participation in crime prevention and conflict resolution in a decisive move to strengthen community safety and promote peace,
The meeting brought together CP Miller G. Dantawaye and the NYCN leadership, led by its State Chairman, Comrade Abdulrahman Abdulmumin as contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO, for the Command,SP William Aya in the state.
The discussion,he added , centered on fostering meaningful youth engagement in local security matters, enhancing early threat detection, and encouraging timely reporting of suspicious activities, adding that the engagement took place at Police Command Headquarters, Lokoja on Wednesday.
According to the police image maker,the aim of the meeting was to build unity, instill civic responsibility, and tap into the energy, skills, and innovative thinking of young people to complement law enforcement efforts.
Through partnership, open communication, and active involvement of youths in peacebuilding initiatives, the police and NYCN intend to bridge the gap between communities and security agencies, ensuring timely information sharing and coordinated action against criminal elements,he said.
CP Dantawaye stressed that youths have a “vital role” in to play in peacebuilding and conflict prevention, noting that their ideas, knowledge, and local networks can greatly support police efforts.
He urged young people to take responsibility, work closely with security agencies, and provide actionable intelligence to curb criminal activities.
Responding on behalf of the youth, Comrade Abdulrahman Abdulmumin praised the Commissioner’s proactive leadership in tackling insecurity since assuming office.
He assured that Kogi youth stand ready to serve as the “vanguard for peace and development” by actively supporting police operations, engaging in community sensitization, and contributing to decision-making on security matters.
The police and NYCN emphasized that security is everyone’s business and urged residents to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and participate in community safety programs.
The public is reminded that building a safer and more prosperous Kogi State requires shared responsibility, unity, and trust between security agencies and the communities they serve.
