President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, a distinguished alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as the Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga on Tuesday.
Other principal officers appointed for the university include Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.
A medical doctor by training, Prof. Yakasai earned his MBBS from ABU Zaria before winning a European Economic Commission scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
He obtained membership and later a fellowship at the prestigious Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
According to the statement, the new VC further earned a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, UK, and proceeded to the United States, where he became a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) and the American College of Surgeons.
He has also served as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board in Kano State.
