The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the historic approval and directives on pension increases and Minimum Pension Guarantee to retirees in Nigeria.

Omini Oden, Head, Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications,
National Senior Citizens Centre, says in a statement on behalf of the Director General, Mrs Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, that this bold monumental gesture underscores the President’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and dignity of Nigeria’s senior citizens and has brought relief and hope to many families, who have toiled meaningfully to the overall development of the country.

The statement read, “The directive is a testament to President Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to social justice and inclusivity and also a landmark decision that has laid to rest, long-overdue pension increases and establishment of a minimum pension guarantee for retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The Director General also appreciated President Tinubu’s directive for an urgent resolution of the long-standing police pension debacle, stressing that officers who have served should retire with dignity and a restful mind.

Mrs Akinyemi-Obe assured that the National Senior Citizens Centre established pursuant to the NSCC Act 2017, remains a vocal advocate for the rights and well-being of senior citizens, and will tirelessly champion and support the cause of pension reform and improvement.

She added that President Tinubu’s directives have addressed a critical need that has been neglected for too long, noting that, the implementation of pension increases and the establishment of a minimum pension guarantee will significantly enhance the quality of life for countless retirees, who had dedicated their lives to nation-building.

“By ensuring a safety net for the nation’s most vulnerable retirees, the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu has not only alleviated financial hardships but restored dignity of the Senior Citizens”, she said.
