The Plateau State Association, USA, Inc. (PSA-USA), has commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her N1 billion donation to support victims of recent violent attacks in Plateau State.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday and signed by its National President, Dr. Barth Shepkong, the association described the donation as a bold and compassionate gesture that underscores true leadership.
“The Plateau State Association, USA, Inc. (PSA-USA) joins voices across Nigeria and the diaspora in expressing profound appreciation to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her bold and compassionate donation of N1 billion to support humanitarian relief for victims of violent attacks in rural communities of Plateau State,” the statement read.
The announcement, made on July 3, 2025, comes at a time when many communities in Plateau remain displaced and traumatised due to recurring violence and insecurity.
“The First Lady’s intervention sends a powerful and reassuring message—that no Nigerian community should be forgotten, and that justice and healing must be prioritised at the highest levels of national leadership. This is not just a financial gesture; it is a profound symbol of solidarity and care for the people of Plateau,” Dr. Shepkong added.
He praised the First Lady’s commitment to humanity and said her action serves as a reminder that compassion should guide public service.
Highlighting the association’s commitment to the state’s development, Shepkong revealed that PSA-USA will mark its 20th Anniversary in September 2025. The event will include the official launch of the R64 Diaspora Initiative, a community-driven platform aimed at mobilising the Plateau diaspora for development across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas and 64 Development Wards.
“This initiative aligns with the First Lady’s vision by centering vulnerable populations and promoting peace, resilience, and inclusive development,” he noted.
He also called on relevant government bodies and humanitarian agencies to ensure that the N1 billion donation is deployed transparently, timely, and effectively—especially to benefit women, children, the elderly, and other underserved groups.
PSA-USA is a non-profit, non-partisan organisation dedicated to building a strong and unified Plateau diaspora community in the United States. Its mission includes supporting charitable and educational projects focused on health, education, social justice, and economic empowerment for the poor, disabled, and underprivileged, both in Plateau State and among Plateau indigenes in the U.S.
