The Kogi State Government has expressed its commitment to partnering with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to expand access to clean and renewable energy, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

This is contained in a Ismaila Isah,Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday.

He said the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo reiterated the commitment during a working visit to the ECN headquarters in Abuja where he was received by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi.

According to him the visit served as a strategic engagement between the state government and the Commission, with discussions focused on collaborative efforts to accelerate clean energy adoption, particularly off-grid electricity solutions that can serve underserved and rural communities in Kogi State.

Governor Ododo,he added ,praised Dr. Abdullahi, a native of Kogi, for his contributions to Nigeria’s energy transition efforts, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the state and the nation.

He affirmed Kogi’s readiness to align with national clean energy policies and emphasized that energy infrastructure development remains a top priority for his administration.

The Governor also commended President Tinubu for promoting initiatives that enhance energy inclusion, empower youth, and drive sustainable development across multiple sectors of the economy.

In his remarks, Dr. Abdullahi briefed the Governor on ECN’s mandate, the National Energy Master Plan, and the Commission’s implementation of the Renewed Hope Solarization Project,a federal initiative delivering solar-powered infrastructure, including streetlights, to public institutions across Nigeria’s 36 states.

He added that the ECN aims to achieve 30% off-grid electricity coverage nationwide, a goal that aligns with Kogi State’s vision for inclusive and sustainable energy access in both urban and rural areas.
