The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the first semester results for the 2024/2025 academic session, with 273 students withdrawn for poor academic performance.
This decision is among the major resolutions reached at the Board’s 120th meeting, held on Thursday, April 17, at the Board Room of the Polytechnic’s Main Campus in Lokoja.
The Chairman of the Board and Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended the Academic Board Results Verification Committee, led by Deputy Rector,Dr. Samuel Taiwo Olowo, for its diligence in scrutinizing the results and urged the committee to sustain the standard it has set.
Despite efforts to provide a conducive learning environment, the Rector expressed concern over the academic performance of some students, which led to their withdrawal.
The affected students cut across 20 departments and 42 academic programmes.
Professor Usman also applauded the Central Examination Misconduct Committee, as well as the committees at the school and departmental levels, for their thorough work in addressing academic infractions.
He emphasized the need for continued collaboration among the committees to uphold the quality of teaching and learning in the institution.
The Rector reaffirmed the commitment of the Polytechnic’s Management and Board to ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing the institution’s academic standards.
While thanking Board members for their continued support, he urged students to remain focused and take full advantage of the supportive learning environment.
In a statement issued by Uredo Omale, Director of Public Relations and Protocol, and made available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Monday,the Polytechnic directed all withdrawn or expelled students to return all institutional property in their possession, including their identity cards, to the Security Unit before leaving the campus.
Additionally, the Polytechnic has expelled six students for examination-related offences,four students from the Department of Mass Communication were caught with extraneous materials during examinations, while two others were expelled for impersonation.
According to the institution, the actions of these students violated Section 4.35 (9) of the 2021 Revised Edition of the Students’ Information Handbook.
