It was a thrilling blend of adventure and tradition as vibrant youths from Magongo community in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State took a scenic hike up the legendary Ogegenosi Mountain, standing tall at 1,500 feet above sea level.

The mountain picnic, held as part of the 2025 Owiya Osese Festival, a cherished cultural event celebrating the transition of young women into adulthood, added a touch of nature’s wonder to the festivities. With laughter echoing through the hills, music in the air, and traditional delicacies being passed around, the mountaintop transformed into a lively arena of youthful joy and cultural pride.

Ogegenosi, known for its breathtaking panoramic views, cool mountain breeze, and lush vegetation, did not disappoint. Visitors soaked in the serene environment, took selfies against the dramatic backdrop, and shared stories around makeshift mats spread on the grassy slopes.

For many, the climb was more than just a picnic ,it was a spiritual reconnection with the land and a celebration of heritage. And as the sun began to dip behind the hills, casting golden hues across the landscape, one thing was clear: Magongo is not just a community — it’s a destination.

If you’re looking for a perfect blend of culture, nature, and adventure, mark your calendar for the next Owiya Osese Festival  and don’t forget to pack your hiking shoes!
