Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has called on the Okun people in the diaspora to return home and invest in the economic development of the state, especially by leveraging the over 200 mining licenses available across the area.
The governor made the call during a stakeholder meeting with leaders from the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area at the Lugard House on Tuesday.
He emphasized the need for unity among Okun people, urging them to set aside ethnic, clan, and religious differences in order to collectively address the challenges confronting their district.
Ododo noted that the Okun land, particularly Kabba-Bunu, is rich in mineral resources such as gold and lithium.
He linked the security concerns in the district to the abundance of these natural resources and assured the people that his administration is committed to ensuring peace and security across every part of Kogi State.
He, “Kabba is the first community I have officially received since assuming office. “I commend the people for their unity and their resolve to support the progress of our state.”
The governor revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of a helicopter to Kogi State to enhance the fight against insecurity.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, Zacchaeus Dare Michael, commended the governor for his dynamic leadership, assuring him that stakeholders in the district have adopted him as their candidate in the 2027 Governorship election in the state.
He acknowledged the current unity among Kabba clans and noted that the area is more cohesive than ever before.
Also speaking, an Elder Statesman,Benjamin Oludola, who led the delegation, applauded Governor Ododo’s leadership.
He said residents are already feeling the positive impact of the present administration in the state,particularly in areas such as erosion control, healthcare delivery, and prompt payment of workers’ salaries.
