The Police Service Commission (PSC) has removed Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin as the Commissioner of Police for Edo State, replacing her with Monday Agbonika.
Our correspondent reports that the decision comes just days after the brutal killing of 16 Hausa-Fulani travelers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.on March 27, 2025.
Announcing the change, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that Agbonika, formerly the Commissioner of Police (Mounted Troop) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, has been tasked with restoring public confidence and addressing the security situation in Edo State.
The PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), urged Agbonika to take proactive steps in combating crime and ensuring justice for the victims of the Uromi massacre.
“You must act decisively, engage relevant stakeholders, and maintain transparency in all security operations. Edo residents need to trust their police force,” Argungu emphasized.
Agbonika, a seasoned officer with 32 years of experience, has served in various strategic roles, including Deputy Commissioner of Interpol, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos, and DCP Operations at the Ports Authority Police Command in Port Harcourt.
CP Agbonika pledged to uphold the law and work closely with the Inspector General of Police to restore order and ensure that perpetrators of the Uromi killings are brought to justice.
