The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into an alleged extortion scheme involving some officers in Ushafa, Abuja, after a viral video sparked public outrage.
According to police sources, the officers in question reportedly attempted to extract money from individuals before an altercation ensued, during which the victims resisted. The situation escalated, with the officers allegedly using force under the pretext of enforcing the law.
A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Sunday confirmed that the officers have been identified and summoned for questioning.
“In line with the Command’s commitment to transparency and accountability, all parties involved are urged to present their accounts at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Zaria Street, Garki II, Abuja,” the statement read.
The Command warned against obstructing law enforcement officers but assured the public of a thorough probe to ensure justice is served. It also urged citizens with grievances against police conduct to report via the Complaint Response Unit (08107314192) or the Public Complaint Bureau (09022222352).
This development raises concerns over alleged misconduct among security personnel in the FCT, fueling calls for stricter oversight and reforms in policing practices.
