President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation following a rigorous selection process.

In a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was revealed that the appointment, approved on Tuesday, will take effect on 7th March 2025, coinciding with the retirement of the current Accountant-General, Oluwatoyin Madehin.

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. The selection process was described as “competitive, rigorous, and merit-based,” with Ogunjimi being chosen after an evaluation by a committee that included Directors of Accounts from the Federal Civil Service. The process involved three key stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

The statement emphasized that the thorough selection process aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring transparency, excellence, and competence in public service appointments.

Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which he earned in 1990. He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.
