Guard Time Information,GTI, a prominent organization dedicated to human rights advocacy, has successfully concluded its Nationwide Human Rights Activists Training Programme.
The event, held in Abuja, was designed to enhance the capacity of human rights activists across the country.
A statement issued by Comrade Bibi Oduku, CEO/Chairman of Guard Time Information, confirmed the programme’s completion and its positive impact on promoting human rights awareness. The statement was shared with The Reporters on Tuesday.
He said the training was carried out in partnership with several key institutions, including the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Headquarters in Abuja and its state offices across Nigeria.
Other partners,he added, are the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy for publicity, related activities, and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to address issues such as abuse, molestation, and violence against women and girls.
Oduku highlighted the programme’s success, noting that it would significantly contribute to human rights education and awareness throughout Nigeria.
He emphasized that the training empowers activists to protect citizens’ rights and build partnerships with governmental bodies such as the Nigerian Police Force, ensuring that human rights are upheld across all levels of society.
Guard Time Information is also committed to supporting organizations such as SARC, NAPTIP, security agencies, schools, educational institutions, and other bodies focused on human rights work in Nigeria,he said.
Oduku appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize citizen welfare and security, calling for the utilization of Nigeria’s talented youth to drive positive social change.
According to him,the organization’s network of legal practitioners continues to grow, with 50 active members, including investigative journalists and correspondents.
The Chairman said Barristers and human rights activists from various regions are also playing critical roles in the activities of the organization.
He identified such activists as Barrister Juliana Bako Saleh in the Northwest, Barrister Stephen Andrew, Barrister Mauza Arafat, Barrister Bitrus Nuwa, Barrister Emeka Kingsley, and Barrister Thyma Abiola in the North Central region.
Others from the Northeast are:Barrister Uresiten Jacob Afeyib, Barrister Kabiru Haruna, Barrister Saeed Muhammad Tukur, and Barrister Ismail Ibrahim are leading the charge.
The Southeast,he revealed ,is represented by Barrister Julius Okoro, Barrister Goodnews Chima, and others, while the Southwest sees Barrister Victory Adelaiye Oluwaseyi and Barrister Moses Ishola taking the lead.
The South-South region is represented by Barristers Meibe Damba, Egboka Chinemlum Damian, Inyene Ekpe, Abel Amasowomwan, Chinedu Osueke, Confidence O. O. Agbator, and others.
He noted that these dedicated individuals, supported by their respective state coordinators, continue to work closely with the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters to bring human rights violators to justice, marking a series of notable successes in recent months.
The chairman said that Guard Time Information, along with its partners, remains committed to creating a safer, fairer, and more just society for all Nigerians.
