By correspondent in Lagos.

The Itesiwaju Mainland (IM), a political group under the ruling APC, has started mobilising members in Lagos Mainland Local Government and Yaba LCDA for the council poll.
The group held its first monthly meeting of the year at the Herbert McCauley Primary Adekunle Area of Yaba on Thursday.
The group chairman, Prince Aliu Momoh, told members to get their permanent voter card (PVC) ready for the LG election coming up soon.
Momoh advised group members not to fall into the antics of some faceless groups masquerading as working for APC.
“We normally have our meeting once a month at least to gather all of us so we prepare for the ward meeting.
“This is where pass authentic information to members, who will in turn take the information to the ward level.
“Today, we told members to watch out for real APC party meetings at the local government level.
“ We also told them to get permanent voter cards (PVC) ready for the coming local government election.
“If the other groups tell them that they want to do an APC meeting, they should not fall for the tricks because, for now, we don’t have an executive.
The other groups used to claim they wanted to do APC meetings, just to gather people so for their selfish gains.
“We warned our members not to listen to those people, but rather wait to hear from us to tell them where to go,’’ Momoh said.
The chairman assured that when the party, at the high level, “gives us the guideline, we will let them know’’.
According to him, the local government election is likely to take place in Lagos in May.
“We are hearing, maybe local government election will take place in May, I’m not sure,’’ he added.
Also speaking, the Secretary of Itesiwaju Mainland, Mr Atanda Kola
Said one of the major reasons the group organised the meeting was to ensure that members get dividend of democracy.
“From our findings, we realised that most of the time, these people only see our candidates during the election period.
“So to avoid such, we decided to set up this organisation, majorly for those that do not belong to any political group before now.
“It is like we are just introducing them to party politics. This is to ensure that what belongs to them gets to them.
“Our membership has spread across both Mainland Local Government and Yaba LCDA for the past few months.
“We’ve been organising caucus meetings at various wards across the two local governments. At least our membership strength is over 1,500 members,” Kola said.
