The Commissioner of Police in kogi state,CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, has advised the executive members of the “Take It Back Movement” to have a rethink over their intention to participate in a nationwide protest scheduled for October 1.
He gave the advice on Saturday in when he held an important meeting with the exco of the movement at the Kogi State Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
The meeting was prompted by a letter from the group, which expressed intentions to participate in such protest.
CP Onuoha urged the group to reconsider their plans, emphasizing the need to give the government more time to address the nation’s economic challenges.
He acknowledged the group’s right to peaceful protest but raised concerns about potential disruptions caused by individuals looking to exploit such gatherings for violence or chaos.
“While your intentions are noble, we must prioritize the safety of all citizens and protect critical infrastructure from potential harm,” he cautioned, stressing the importance of maintaining peace.
The coordinator of the “Take It Back Movement”, Mose Opeyemi,assured the Commissioner of Police that, as responsible and educated youths, they would heed his advice.
He said that members of the movement are committed to holding discussions among themselves to evaluate the issues raised and decide on their course of action regarding the protest.
The meeting concluded with mutual respect, as the group commended CP Onuoha for his guidance.
The dialogue highlighted the role of young people as future leaders and their responsibility in fostering development within the state.
Present at the meeting include some key police officials, including DCP Chike Louis Nwabuwa and SP William Ovye Aya, along with various members of the movement.
As the planned protest approaches, the dialogue between the police and the youth reflects a commitment to collaboration and peace in Kogi State.
