Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Prof. Jerry Gana, has emphasized the urgent need for Nigerians to foster unity and mutual respect, urging them to prioritize issues that unite rather than divide, to prevent bloodshed.
Speaking after the conclusion of a three-day Synod of the Anglican Church in Busu, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger state, Prof. Gana expressed deep concern over the escalating economic challenges causing hunger, frustration, and hardship, especially among the masses.
He insisted that Nigeria’s abundant human, material, and natural resources should preclude it from enduring poverty.
He commended the Busu community for their hospitality towards guests, regardless of religious differences
“I must thank the Busu community for their warm reception. They have shown great hospitality, which exemplifies the spirit of togetherness that Nigeria needs,”he said.
Addressing the issue of religious intolerance, Prof. Gana denounced the violence perpetrated in the name of religion, emphasizing that religious differences should be a unifying force rather than a source of division
“No one should kill because of religion; instead, let us use religion to promote unity and love,” he added.
The Professor called upon religious leaders to use their platforms to promote love and harmony, stressing that Nigeria’s status shows the country as a secular entity.
He lamented the economic disparities that have led many Nigerians into premature deaths, attributing them to the failure to harness the country’s abundant resources effectively.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural resources. We are too rich to be poor. It is frustrating that we are not doing the right things consistently,” he remarked.
He emphasized the need for Nigerians to work together, regardless of their occupations, and to prioritize productivity and cooperation to propel the nation forward.
