—Deepening tax administration efficiency and civic responsibility compliance to boost Kogi state economy, through KGIRS operation.

By Otori Ozigi Samuel Ochetengwu.

It goes without saying that the KGIRS is central and strategic to the economy of Kogi state in a bid to run the affairs of the state and meet payments of workers salaries and other contractual obligations and agreements.

Little wonder therefore, that the management of the revenue service is ably suited in the hands of a competent, knowledgeable innovative , resourceful, dynamic, focused, astute and pragmatic manager of both technology and manpower development in the state.

This is the fundamental reasons why Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe,a chartered accountant turned tax administrator was carefully headhunted in November 2021 to keep watch over the affairs of the Kogi State Internal Revenue service,KGIRS.

True, the story of tax administration in the state has been largely a mixed bag of IGR fortunes over the years.

Once upon a time, the IGR of the state stood at a paltry and miserable 300 million naira averagely per month.

That was the scenario prior to the assumption of office of former governor Yahaya Bello in 2016.

As at that time the economy and revenue base of the state was in shambles and tottering on a shaky foundation with meargre monthly allocation from FAAC.

But the government of the immediate past governor ,Alhaji Yahaya Bello was determined to break the chain of paucity of funds and improve the parlours economy..

Towards this end, therefore, the governor made decisive and conscious efforts to change the narrative of the economy.

That must have informed the appointment of Senator Yakubu Oseni,a trained economist and seasoned banker to pilot the affairs of the service.

His appointment elicited instant success trajectory as the IGR outperformed to the neighborhood of N1.3B monthly.

After he left for the national assembly,Mr Inda Ali,a transformational banker took over the reigns of the management of KGIRS.

It is noteworthy that he maintained the tempo and even improved on the IGR performance by posting over N1.5B monthly averagely.

However,he ran into troubled water for an alleged financial infractions and was removed from office.

The man who took over from him,Alhaji Yusuf could not maintain the IGR performance and the figure nosedived to the neighborhood of about 700 million naira.

He was promptly removed and the lot now fell on the current Executive Chairman,Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe..

KGIRS under his watch, the service has been posting outstanding and record breaking IGR performance that speaks volumes of his capacity and competence as a tax administrator, with a midas touch.

Recall that KGIRS recorded over 18billion naira in 2022, and 23billion in 2023 under the watch of Alhaji Enehe.

In conclusion therefore, the service is working assiduously and tirelessly to meet the ambitious N30.4B target as projected in 2024 budget in the state.

On the whole,it is evidently clear that Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe have made the difference in the cheqeured history of the service.

Better days are ahead under his able watch.

It could only be better.
